Ultimate Spider-Man Reaches Its Epic Finale — But a Bigger Marvel War Is Just Beginning
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Marvel dropped a major update on its fan-favorite Ultimate Universe line — and it’s sending shockwaves through the comic book world.
Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto’s Ultimate Spider-Man, one of Marvel’s biggest hits of recent years, is officially ending with issue #24 in December 2025. But before fans panic — this isn’t a cancellation. It’s the end of a story that’s been carefully planned from day one.
“This was everything that I pitched,” Hickman revealed during the SDCC panel. “Nothing has deviated. It’s been really nice to execute the plan well, and everything culminates into this issue. Fans of the Ultimate Universe are going to love it.”
While the series may be ending, something even bigger is on the horizon. Marvel is launching a brand-new crossover event titled Ultimate Endgame — and it’s set to be the most explosive chapter yet in the reborn Ultimate Universe.
Ultimate Endgame picks up from 2023’s Ultimate Invasion, which saw the evil version of Reed Richards, aka The Maker, locked away in another dimension. Since then, all Ultimate titles — including The Ultimates, Ultimate Wolverine, and Ultimate Spider-Man — have been unfolding in real-time, slowly counting down the two years to his return.
And now… he’s back.
Ultimate Endgame will be written by The Ultimates scribe Deniz Camp, with art from Jonas Scharf and more. The series promises to unite characters from across the Ultimate line in a massive showdown unlike anything seen in the Marvel Universe before.
“This is the craziest and most impactful crossover [I’ve worked on],” Camp said. “It’s very big, very dramatic, and with the Ultimate Universe, we can actually change the world. Marvel has encouraged us to go bold, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
Fans can expect intense character collisions, long-awaited resolutions, and massive consequences. In the Ultimate Universe, nothing is sacred — and no one is safe.
Given that Ultimate Spider-Man has consistently been one of Marvel’s top sellers, it’s unlikely the series will stay gone for long. Expect a relaunch with a new creative team in 2026, following the fallout of Ultimate Endgame.
